Holst: 2nd Suite in F Op. 28 No.2 (complete) - wind quintet
The Second Suite in F for Military Band (Op. 28, No. 2) is Gustav Holst's second and last suite for concert band.
Although performed less frequently than the First Suite in E-flat, it is still a staple of the band repertoire.
The Second Suite was written in 1911 and first published in 1922.
It is arranged here for wind quintet.
I have arranged the longer outer movements so that players have a chance of a rest (to breath!!) so that all 5 are not playing tutti all the time.
In mvt 4, the repeated 8 bar figure is shared amongst all the players.
The mvts are:
- 1."March: Morris dance, Swansea Town, Claudy Banks"
- 2."Song Without Words, 'I'll Love My Love'"
- 3."Song of the Blacksmith"
- 4."Fantasia on the Dargason" (incorporating "Greensleeves")
The movements are also available separately.
Check out my wind quintet arrangement of "Brook Green Suite", also by Holst.
And my other arrangements of some of his works:
"In the Bleak Midwinter",
" I vow to thee my country" (Thaxted), and
"Christmas Day"
