Mozart: Divertimento No.8 in F K213 - wind quintet
Mozart: Divertimento No.8 in F K213
The wind sextet divertimenti No.8 in F major (K 213), No.9 in B-flat major (K 240),No.12 in E-flat major (K 252/240a), No.13 in F major (K 253), and No.14 in B-flat major (K 270) are five companion compositions for pairs of oboes, horns and bassoons by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The apparent absence of an additional divertimento in E-flat major to complete a set of six (the usual number needed for publication) led early musicologists, including Alfred Einstein,[3] to believe that the Divertimento No.16 in E-flat major K 289/271g was also part of the set, but the latter's authenticity is now in considerable doubt.
This is a wind quintet (fl,ob,cl,hn,bsn) arrangement of W A Mozart’s Divertimento no 8 which was originally written as a sextet.(2 oboes,2 horns and 2 bassoons)
In general I have shared the original oboe parts between the flute and the oboe. The bassoon part is mainly the original 2nd bassoon part.
The clarinet plays some 1st bassoon and some of the horn parts.
I have given the original horn parts to the new horn part-either 1st or 2nd horn depending on what the clarinet has been given.
The horn only plays the open notes of the valveless horn that Mozart wrote for, and this hopefully retains the correct classical sound that Mozart would recognise, had he written this as a wind quintet.
